How it works: Load dry food or small treats into the compartments, close the sliders and set it down. Your pet sniffs out the food, learns to push the lids and slide the layers, and eats a piece at a time. Start with a few lids open so they get an early win, then make it harder as they learn.

Good for: indoor cats, kittens and puppies, fast eaters, pets left alone during the work day, and anyone trying to tire out a pet without more walks.

Not for: large or strong dogs — the manufacturer sizes it for cats, puppies and small pets, and a big dog will flip it or chew the plastic.

Questions about this product

Will it work for my dog? For puppies and small breeds, yes. Medium and large dogs are too strong for it — look at a snuffle ball or a slow feeder bowl instead.

What food goes in it? Dry kibble and small hard treats. Wet food gets stuck in the sliders.

My cat just stares at it — what now? Leave a few compartments open and let them see you put the treat in; close more lids each day as they work it out.

How do I clean it? Rinse and wash in warm soapy water; the manufacturer doesn't list it as dishwasher safe.
